I’m Kerry and I offer one-to-one flute and music theory lessons in Chelmsford, Essex from my purpose-built garden music room.

I’ve used my 28 years of teaching experience to design a learning space which is warm and inviting for both children and adults. There’s a comprehensive library of sheet music, up-to-date exam preparation materials and resources to support learning in between lessons, so everyone gets the most out of their tuition.

Where are the lessons held?

My music teaching studio is located in the Newlands Spring area of North Chelmsford (CM1).

How do I contact you?

Do I need my own flute?

I have starter instruments for very young players, otherwise I can advise on instrument hire through the local music service/library, private instrument hire and instrument purchase.

Are lessons suitable for beginners?

Yes, I accept players of all levels, including absolute beginners and second instrument players.

Do you teach up to grade 8?

My degree is in classical music, and flute was my first instrument, so I take students up to and beyond Grade 8.

Do you prepare students for exams?

Yes, students are entered for ABRSM exams when they are ready and if they wish to follow this route. It’s not compulsory and never a requirement.

Do you have teaching qualifications?

Yes, I'm a fully qualified teacher having trained as a secondary music specialist. I continue to work as a part-time music teacher in a school for students with special needs alongside teaching individual flute lessons from my music room.

Is there free parking?

Yes, on-street parking is available on nearby roads.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations require 24 hours' notice; otherwise, the full lesson fee may apply.

Do you teach children?

Yes, I teach children of all ages.

Do you teach adults?

Yes, I really enjoy teaching adults! I have taught young adults alongside their degree studies as well as retired learners looking to rekindle a past hobby.

Can I take lessons online?

Yes, I offer regular in-person lessons, but also switch to online whenever it’s more convenient for my students.

Are group lessons available?

I don’t currently offer group lessons.

How often should I take lessons?

Lessons are weekly by default, please call me if your requirements fall outside of this rhythm.

Are you close to public transport links?

Yes, there is a bus stop opposite the entrance to the music room with regular shuttles into Chelmsford town center.

How do I pay?

Students are invoiced monthly or half termly for direct bank transfer. Once booked, lessons can be rearranged, but not refunded. This allows families to plan lessons ahead, only paying for those they are able to attend.

Do you teach music theory?

Yes, ABRSM grades 1-5 in person or online.

Do you hold a current DBS?

Yes, for adults and children.
